Behind Root & Quill
Hello adventurers and storytellers. My name is S.S. Romano, but you can feel free to call me Sage. Root & Quill is a soulful place where all things that encompass my creativity lives.
I was born in Hawaii, grew up in the UK, and then came back to the US when I was 10. My mother is from the Philippines and my father is a proud Texan with English-Scot-Irish roots. Thanks to my multicultural background and travel loving parents, I enjoyed the art of storytelling at an early age through Polynesian dance forms and later Middle Eastern and American vernacular dances. In college, I dove into the world of Cultural Anthropology where my lens widened into myths and tales, some that even transferred into cultural dance forms. This allowed me to understand how important stories truly were. Stories are a lens. Stories influences us as individuals, our families, culture, and how we move through the world. Stories are powerful.
After fifteen years as a choreographer and artistic director, I retired from dance and later began writing during the pandemic. I also launched a YouTube channel that documents my family's journey towards more off grid and sustainable living. This is a dream I've had since I was a teenager. I am also in the process of publishing my very first middle reader fantasy book called Eden's Hollow: The Land of All Souls (release in 2026).
Apart from writing and creative storytelling, I spend my time reading, gardening, suffering in pilates, watching anything historical, or hosting themed dinner parties for my family. I reside between Nevada and Texas as my family works towards shared vision of sustainable off-grid living in our cottage (join us here on YouTube). We have an enchanted forest of animals in our household (three parakeets and two dogs). Our vision is live simply, love Jesus, be good stewards of the land, take care of our loved ones, live as a full-time family of creatives (my husband is an acoustic guitarist who's about to release his first album and has his own YouTube), and have the flexibility to travel together and make memories.
